Showmax is an online streaming service offering live sports, local and international content. This includes series, movies and children’s shows. You can also stream or download content on your smartphone or computer.
The good news is you can sign up for a 14-day free trial. But, is the Showmax 14-day free trial worth your time and money?
Although I write product and service reviews, this is not a sponsored review. I am already using Showmax Pro and enjoying it. Because I began using the service without testing it, I decided to sign up for the 14-day free trial to see how it works.
Having gone through the whole sign up process, I thought it would be a great idea to share my experience with you.
Showmax is an African answer to Netflix, Hulu and other online streaming services. Unlike other streaming services, it is possible to use Showmax on multiple devices simultaneously. What you see, is what you end up getting. In summary, Showmax is the best choice for family entertainment especially now that children are on long break due to Covid-19.
Is the Showmax 14-Day Free Trial Worth Your Time and Money?
If you have been calling customer services then you must be familiar with how annoying it can be to get help. Customer care service never seems to work! Like most African run businesses, prompt response often does not happen.
Many times phone calls, emails and messages on social media platform go unanswered. Additionally, physical visits to customer care officers are not productive either.
That is why I was very skeptical about signing up for Showmax in the past.

14-Day Free Trial Pros and Cons
The Showmax user interface is slick, appealing and simple. Signing up for the 14-day free trial was straightforward. As I was going through the process, I looked forward to sampling what the trial period has to offer.
I already knew I was not going to need 14 days to make up my mind on whether to upgrade to a full package.
But, the moment I reached step 6 (please refer to the sign up process above) and was prompted to pay, I knew the deal was too good to be true! There is no such thing as a 14-day free trial offer. You have to PAY to enjoy the free trial!
After paying Kshs. 380, I created a profile and started navigating through the movies and series on offer. Since my option was on mobile device, I could only use the service on my smartphone. This is restrictive because it is not what I had in mind for a service I have already paid for.
When I called the Nairobi customer care office for clarification and assistance, my phone call went unanswered. I then resorted to try the Kisumu office and had to lie that I live in Kisumu. The customer care agent did not have a clue whether the trial works and promised to call me back.
10 minutes later, I called back. He said Showmax does not work in Kisumu and sent the Nairobi customer care number. This time round a customer care agent answered my call. He confirmed two things. First, there is no free trial. Secondly, that I have to upgrade to use the 14-day free trial on my TV or computer.
Since I signed up for Showmax Pro a few weeks ago my experience so far is exemplary. I actually subscribed for Showmax Pro to watch live sports. This being so, my opinion is that you should subscribe to Showmax without wasting your time and money on the 14-day free trial offer. It is not worth it.
If you are looking for premium live sports then Showmax Pro will serve you better. With an array of live English Premier League, La Liga, Tour De France, among others this is a sound investment. As a result, I would recommend signing up for Showmax Pro.
However, if you are looking for premium movies and series then I recommend Netflix. For premium sports content I would recommend other services. I will be sharing some of these services in my subsequent reviews soon.
